Driver FAQ

Q. What affects the speed of charging?

A. Unico Power systems are designed to prevent vehicle charging from causing the building's total power consumption to exceed a target threshold. When the total power of the electrical  service that supplies the chargers approaches the threshold, charging stations may be reduced. Buildings also save money by having chargers share electrical circuits, and charging stations on the same circuit will share the available capacity.

Q: Does every vehicle in my building receive the same amount of power while charging?

A.  Power is split equally by default and charging continues whenever possible until each vehicle is full. Vehicles may receive a bigger share of the available power if a driver is in a hurry and chooses to use one of their limited  monthly boost tokens to receive a bigger share of the available power. Unico Power works to ensure that there is still enough power to go around.

Q.  How do I start or stop charging?

A. With the Unico Power web app. Accounts that are already linked to a charging station can use the Enable/Disable button on the main (Status) page. The system will then notify the building controller, which will make sure that other charging stations' limits are adjusted so that everyone can receive a safe and fair level of power. Updated status information appears within two minutes.

Q. Is there a quicker way to access the Unico Power App using my mobile device?

A. We recommend creating a bookmark to access the Unico Power App.  A link on how to create a bookmark is included in your sign-up email.

Q.  I do not have internet access in the parkade. Can I still activate my charger in the Unico Power app?

A. Yes, you can control your charger from anywhere that you have internet access. It is possible to plug in your vehicle before or up to several minutes after activating the charger. Customers with private chargers can also choose to leave them activated indefinitely. Once you use the app, our system will communicate with your charger to turn it on.

Q. What if I move or sell my condo?

A. Please notify us to avoid ongoing charges. The new owner will need to contact us to take over the charging station.

Q. Can I rent out my apartment/condo parking stall?

A. Subject to your building's Strata/Management approval, Yes. Only one account will be billed for the charging station's usage; please either contact us to let another account use the charging station in your name, or have the other account contact us to take over payments.

Q. How do I pay for charging?

A. Unico Power obtains secure payment authorization through the app. We accept credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and JCB. Bills are issued after the end of each calendar month.

Q. How does Unico Power handle personal information and security?

A.  All communications and stored credentials are encrypted, application access is secured with proven technologies, and our servers employ aggressive firewall settings. Unico Power does not store credit card numbers, does not serve ads or run code hosted on other sites, and does not share personal information with outside groups other than your building or charging provider, or as required by law.

Q. What types of Electric Vehicles does your charger work with?

A. Each Unico Power EVSE is equipped with a J1772 Type 1 connector, which is used by most electric vehicles produced in North America after the year 2000. Tesla vehicles do require an adapter to use the J1772 Connector, and all new Teslas are sold with such adapters.

Q. My charger is off, and I have not received instructions for turning it on.

A. First, please contact your Strata for updates on the installation status. Charging stations may not be ready to activate immediately after installation. If others in the building are already using the system, Unico Power may be able to help with activation.

Q. I have a different question.

A. Please refer to the help section in the app, and use the General Inquiry button there if necessary. We place the highest priority on the requests received that way. If you encounter any problems doing so, you can also use this site's public contact form.
